Description

Glidemate is an in-flight android application for soaring pilots.

It is designed to run on high powered Android devices that have a GPS and an optional pressure sensor. Using the location information from these sensors, the application displays the pilots location on a moving map and provides altitude and vertical velocity (with audio) information. An IGC format track log is recorded and can be played back for later flight analysis. It also allows the pilot to define a task as a set of ordered waypoint cylinders of various radius that are "tagged" during flight.

The application uses Open Street Maps 'slippy' map base. The map can be down loaded from the internet prior to flight such that no data connection is required during flight. Tiles may also be downloaded "as required" if there is a data connection available.  The user is able to use altenate map bases by specifying an appropriate URL to a slippy map service.
